The best movies on Max are seeing multiple new additions in November as the year draws to a close, with plenty of seasonal and holiday-themed films arriving well ahead of December. This includes the likes of 2003's Elf, 1983's A Christmas Story, and 1989's National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. However, Max subscribers not yet in the mood for festive movie viewing need not fear, as holiday films are far from all that's arriving - and many of the best movies from the last few months are remaining on Max throughout November too.

Max continues to be one of the most popular streaming services thanks to its variety and for being the assigned home of Warner Bros.’ theatrical releases, and the likes of cinematic classics like The Dark Knight and modern success stories like Dune: Part Two are still going to be available. As always, Max has lost a few of its best movies, such as The Conjuring franchise and a handful of other horror-hits added before and during October for Halloween. However, with many great new arrivals, such as 1993's Jurassic Park and 1990 gangster classic Goodfellas, the caliber of movies available on Max remains just as strong in November as ever.

- Salem's Lot(2024) [Supernatural Horror] - One of the best movies currently on Max continues the trend of great Stephen King adaptations, as 2024's Salem's Lot brings the author's 1975 novel of the same name to the screen. Starring Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh, Bill Camp, and Alfre Woodard among its ensemble cast, Salem's Lot is a sleek modernization of one of Stephen King's most famous stories.
- The Watchers(2024) [Creature-Feature Horror] - Taking place in Ireland, The Watchers is a horror movie with a surprising amount of thematic depth, with many themes layered throughout, and is the directorial debut of Ishana Night Shyamalan, daughter of renowned twist-happy director/screenwriter M. Night Shyamalan.
- Midsommar(2019) [Folk Horror] - 2019's Midsommar is widely regarded as one of the best horror movies of the last five years. After Dani (Florence Pugh) and her group of friends travel to Sweden to take part in a 9-day midsummer festival at the Hårga commune, the movie quickly takes an incredibly sinister turn that spiritually follows the same vein as classic horrors like The Wicker Man
- The Strangers(2008) [Home Invasion Horror] - The cast of The Strangers is relatively small, but the most memorable appearances are the titular masked strangers. Both their appearance and the violence they inflict on Liv Tyler's Kristen, Scott Speedman's Jay, and Glenn Howerton's Mike are absolutely harrowing, ensuring director Bryan Bertino's intimate and claustrophobic psychological horror became a cult classic.
- Black Swan(2010) [Horror Drama] - Not only is Black Swan one of the best horror movies currently available to stream on Max, it's also one of the most acclaimed movies of the 2010s. The tense psychological horror is truly gripping, and while it doesn't rely on jump-scares or gore as much as many other horror movies (and at times veers more into thriller territory), it's nevertheless harrowing.
- Scream(1996) [Slasher Horror] - 1996's Scream may have been intended as a satirization of the slasher genre, but it ended up writing the blueprint for it for decades to come. Ghostface is one of the most iconic slasher killers in recent cinema history, and Scream is the movie that introduced him to the world long before he was parodied in Scary Movie, or caught the attention of modern audiences in the 2022 reboot starring Jenna Ortega.
- Civil War(2024) [Action Thriller] - With a cast that includes the likes of Kirsten Dunst, Nick Offerman, there are plenty of names attached to Civil War that create intrigue, though none as much as the premise of the movie's story. The film is incredibly poignant, as it's set in the near-future and catalogs a second civil war in the United States.
- The Flash(2023) [Superhero Action] - While it may not be a superhero movie as beloved as, for example, The Dark Knight, 2023's The Flash still stands as an incredibly visually stylish modern action with a phenomenal cast. Not only did Ezra Miller reprise his role as Barry Allen (AKA The Flash), but Michael Shannon returned as General Zod from 2013's Man of Steel, alongside brief appearances from Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman and Jason Momoa's Aquaman, and Ben Affleck making his final appearance as Batman alongside Michael Keaton's return as the same character.
- Dune: Part Two (2024) [Epic Sci-Fi] - Dune: Part Two has been one of the most successful films of 2024 so far, and the second chapter of Denis Villeneuve's epic sci-fi trilogy based on the books of Frank Herbert has been lauded for multiple reasons, from its digestible adaptation of the complex source material through to its all-star cast. Dune: Part Two has been considered by many as a movie that raises the bar on what's expected from epic-scale sci-fi moving forward.
- The Lord of the Rings(2001-2003) [Epic Fantasy] - Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy doesn't just consist of three of the best movies on Max, but three of the best movies ever made, period. The Lord of the Rings movies hold 17 Academy Awards between them, with The Return of the King landing Best Picture. The cast is exceptional too, though Andy Serkis as Gollum, Ian McKellen as Gandalf, and Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn stand out as notable highlights.
- Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga(2024) [Apocalyptic Sci-Fi] - The Mad Max franchise was re-ignited with 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road, and 2024 brought another high-octane entry to the series — the Fury Road prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Furiosa is the first entry to focus on a character other than Max Rockatansky. Instead, the 2024 prequel is the story of Imperator Furiosa, the heroine played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road, with Anya Taylor-Joy now taking up the titular role.
- The Dark Knight (2008) [Superhero Crime Thriller] - More of a gritty crime thriller than a comic book movie, The Dark Knight dominated the pop culture landscape upon release, and continues to do so over 15 years later. While the storytelling is taut and thrilling, and the entire cast brings their A-game, what really makes the movie special is Heath Ledger as the Joker, with mannerisms to his trademark quotes — "Wanna know how I get these scars?", "Why so serious ?" — now considered iconic.
- Scott Pilgrim vs. the World(2010) [Action Romance] - 2010's Scott Pilgrim vs. The World was based on the graphic novels by Bryan Lee O'Malley, and over the years has gone from being a somewhat underappreciated cult gem to a global phenomenon. The heavy video game influences, slick soundtrack, and razor-sharp script are all selling points of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, as is the stellar cast.
- Godzilla vs. Kong(2021) [Action Sci-Fi] - When it comes to giant monsters in movies, two names stand above all the rest — Godzilla and King Kong. In 2021 Legendary's Monsterverse brought them both together in the epic blockbuster cinematic event Godzilla vs. Kong, which remains unrivaled when it comes larger-than-life scenes of destruction and mayhem.
- Beetlejuice(1988) [Horror Comedy] - The plot of Beetlejuice is oozing with all the spooky weirdness Tim Burton is now known for. Deceased couple Adam and Barbara, find that their beloved home has new inhabitants. They're contacted by Beetlejuice, a self-styled "bio-exorcist" who specializes in getting the living to abandon haunted properties - though the trickster has his own nefarious agenda.
- Dream Scenario(2023) [Dark Comedy] - 2023's Dream Scenario is a surreal genre-defying comedy. Nicholas Cage stars as unassuming biology teacher Paul Matthews. Paul's life is turned upside-down when, for reasons unknown, he starts appearing in thousands of people's dreams, from total strangers to his friends and family.
- Deadpool(2016) [Superhero Comedy] - Ryan Reynolds redefined superhero movies with the arrival of Deadpool in 2016. The R-rated Marvel movie flipped the script with its fourth wall breaks, raunchy humor, and incredible levels of violence. Despite the fact it's a comedy at heart, Deadpool also contains many surprisingly emotional moments, and a story that's narratively sound.
- The Devil Wears Prada(2006) [Workplace Comedy] - Based on the Lauren Weisberger best-selling novel of the same name, The Devil Wears Prada sees recent college graduate Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) get a coveted job at Runway magazine as a junior assistant to Miranda Priestley (Meryl Streep). The only problem is, Miranda is the boss from hell.
- The Boy and the Heron(2023) [Animated Adventure] - The final film of legendary director Hayao Miyazaki, The Boy and the Heron is a typical Studio Ghibli movie filled with whimsy, plenty of fantastical elements in the narrative, and animation that is, in no uncertain terms, beautiful throughout. The plot has plenty of hard-hitting emotional moments, and while it remains a family movie, some aspects of the plot may go over the heads of especially young viewers.
- How to Train Your Dragon(2010) [Animated Fantasy] - Of all the DreamWorks series of the last few decades, few have captured the hearts of viewers quite as effectively as How To Train Your Dragon - and when it comes to pulling on emotional heartstrings and maintaining a perfect balance between action and comedy, the first How To Train Your Dragon film remains almost unbeaten by any modern family movies.
- Teen Titans Go! To The Movies(2018) [Animated Superhero] - In 2018, Teen Titans Go! To The Movies arrived in theaters, and the film is an absolute delight both for kids who simply enjoy the slapstick antics of the Teen Titans in their Go! personas (and the musical numbers), and for adult viewers who enjoy spotting the dozens of DC Comics Easter eggs littered throughout.
- Wonka(2023) [Fantasy Adventure] - Serving as a prequel to the 1971 movie, Timothée Chalamet stars in Wonka as the legendary chocolateer Willy Wonka, and delivers a spellbinding performance in the role. "Magical" is an adjective bandied around a lot for fantastical family films, but Wonka truly lives up to the description.
- Singin in the Rain(1952) [Classic Musical] - Set in the 1920s, Singin’ in the Rain follows Don and Lina, two popular silent film stars whose latest film is remade into a musical. The transition from silent films to “talkies” isn’t easy, and while Don has the voice for the new singing part, the same can’t be said for Lina. Singin’ in the Rain is regarded as one of the greatest films ever made, and holds a well-deserved 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
- Howl's Moving Castle(2004) [Animated Fantasy] - Set in a kingdom with magic and 19th-century technology, and against the backdrop of a war, Howl’s Moving Castle follows a young hatmaker named Sophie, who is cursed by a witch and turned into an elderly woman. On her quest to find a way to break the curse, Sophie comes across Howl’s moving castle and meets Howl himself, who she soon learns is a wizard caught up in his resistance to fighting for the king.
- Joker(2019) [Crime Drama] - Joker may be based on the Batman villain of the same name, but there are no capes or cowls to be found in the gritty drama starring Joaquin Phoenix. It's an extended character study, exploring just how far a single person can be pushed before they become the spark that ignites city-wide insanity.
- Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1(2024) [Western Drama] - Few actors currently working can claim to have as intricate an understanding of the Western genre as Kevin Costner, and in 2024 he monopolized his considerable talents with his passion-project, Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1. Joining Costner are the likes of Sam Worthington, Sienna Miller, Michael Rooker, and Abbey Lee, to name a few. An American Saga is certainly an apt tagline for Horizon, as Chapter 1 is the first of multiple planned entries in Costner's epic Western tale.
- The Sixth Sense(1999) [Supernatural Drama] - 1999's The Sixth Sense is arguably the movie that put twist-happy writer/director M. Night Shyamalan on the map, and still stands as one of his best works. Bruce Willis stars as child psychologist Malcolm Crowe in The Sixth Sense, who finds himself working with Cole (Osment), a 9-year-old boy who claims he can see dead people. Before long, Crowe finds out that Cole isn't suffering from hallucinations but does actually have the ability to see and speak to the deceased.
- 2001: A Space Odyssey(1968) [Classic Sci-Fi] - 2001: A Space Odyssey is an epic sci-fi film directed by Stanley Kubrick. The discovery of a mysterious monolith on the lunar surface leads the Discovery One and its revolutionary computer, HAL 9000, on a mission to unravel its mysterious origin. It's regarded as one of the greatest films of all time, as well as a highly influential one thanks to its visual effects and narrative techniques.
- Casablanca(1942) [Classic Romance] - Classic romance movie Casablanca tells the story of American expatriate and nightclub owner Rick Blaine and his former lover Ilsa Lund, who left Rick without explanation years before. It's both timeless and incredibly influential, and is just as heartwarming in the 2020s as it was in 1942 when it released.
- Barbie The Movie(2023) [Fantasy Comedy] - 2023's Barbie is more than just a riot of pink — it's also an incredible examination of growing up, the pressures of expectations on women, the need to become someone outside a relationship, toxic masculinity, and the feminism that Barbie dolls were originally created for. Margot Robbie delivers an incredible performance as Barbie, with Ryan Gosling's Ken capturing hearts with his bumbling inability to win her affections.
